Hillary Clinton Got a Standing Ovation While Dining at Upland

The people's president. The genuine love (and awards) that keeps pouring out for her must drive her detractors up a wall.

Hillary Clinton got quite a warm welcome when she went to Upland this week — the former secretary of state received a standing ovation as she walked into the Murray Hill restaurant.

Clinton arrived with her daughter Chelsea, Chelsea’s husband Marc Mezvinsky, and media exec Barry Diller and sat in a booth in the public dining room, according to a video of the visit posted to Instagram and Page Six. Patrons of the California- and Italian-cuisine restaurant were very excited by Clinton’s presence. Several posted selfies with her afterward, calling her “queen.”

Last fall, Clinton also riled up fans by sending Joe’s pizza to people waiting in line for the signing of her book What Happened. Restaurant-wise, she’s been spotted at Midtown Greek restaurant Estiatorio Milos, Rao’s, and Red Rooster in Harlem.

Upland — an acclaimed restaurant from Stephen Starr and chef Justin Smillie — is also a favorite of President Barack Obama. He’s visited the California-inspired restaurant multiple times over the years.
