They have no intentions or desires to get snagged in the Mueller dragnet. If Mueller wants to subpoena them to show up in court - Mueller will have to rent a Falcon rocket from SpaceX/Elon Musk and go catch them.

(58,785 posts)Because we have a very conservative guest and can't play news around him, I was listening to Nicolle Wallace while the guys were out, and someone pointed flat out that someone said Trump was an agent of Russia, also (my own guess) that Manafort wouldn't deal because he was afraid his associates would kill him, and they all seemed to agree, including a comment of what really. really bad people Manofort was involved with.
I don't think the entire KGOP leadership would have to be in on it or coerced by blackmail, although both may apply. But we do know for sure that they are so corrupt that they would go along and allow America to be attacked and try to cover it up just for the sake of holding power.

(5,624 posts)WASHINGTON For two decades, Representative Dana Rohrabacher has been of value to the Kremlin, so valuable in recent years that the F.B.I. warned him in 2012 that Russia regarded him as an intelligence source worthy of a Kremlin code name.
The following year, the California Republican became even more valuable, assuming the chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee that oversees Russia policy. He sailed to re-election again and again, even as he developed ties to Vladimir V. Putins Russia. Then came President Trump.
As revelations of Russias campaign to influence American politics consume Washington, Mr. Rohrabacher, 70, who had no known role in the Trump election campaign, has come under political and investigative scrutiny. The F.B.I. and the Senate Intelligence Committee are each seeking to interview him about an August meeting with Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, Mr. Rohrabacher said. The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, is said to be interested in a meeting he had last year with Michael T. Flynn, Mr. Trumps short-lived national security adviser.
At the same time, fellow Republicans questioning his judgment and intentions have moved to curtail his power as chairman of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats. And back home in Southern California, where Democrats and Republicans alike smell blood, the 15-term congressman is facing his toughest re-election contest in decades, with well-funded candidates from both parties lining up to unseat him.

Of the rotating cast of characters in the Russia saga, Congressman Dana Rohrabachers role is perhaps the most curious. Though he has no formal ties to Donald Trumps campaign, the California Republicanwhose consistent advocacy for warmer relations with Moscow reportedly earned him a Kremlin code namehas intersected with Trumpworld at critical points. Rohrabachers reputation as a Russophile has never been a secret; the congressman has spent decades pushing for improved relations between the U.S. and Russia, and his support for Vladimir Putin reached such a level that, in 2012, the F.B.I. warned the lawmaker that Russian spies were trying to recruit him. But as F.B.I. investigators and lawmakers alike seek to determine the breadth of Russias election interference, Rohrabachers Kremlin ties and repeated cameos have reportedly taken on a newfound significance, drawing scrutiny from Special Counsel Robert Mueller and congressional investigators amid efforts by his Republican colleagues to curtail his authority.
Like Sergey Kislyak, Rohrabacher has always hovered around the periphery of the Trump-Russia story. In April 2016, a Russian official provided Rohrabacher with a memo containing the same accusations against Democratic donors and the Hillary Clinton campaign that Natalia Veselnitskaya would detail to Donald Trump Jr. during their now-infamous meeting at Trump Tower months later. The same month Trump won the presidency, Rohrabacher met with Michael Flynn, Trumps former national security adviser, and his son, Michael Flynn Jr., both of whom have emerged as key figures in the Russia probe and are expected to be indicted by Muellers team. In February, Rohrabacher dined privately with Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of the Russian central bank who reportedly sought to set up a backdoor between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. And this past August, Rohrabacher traveled to London to meet with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, whom U.S. investigators believe acted as an intermediary for the Kremlin to release thousands of stolen e-mails damaging to the Clinton campaign.
Rohrabacher dismissed the suggestion that any of these encounters were questionable, citing his chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, which oversees Russia policy, as the reason for them. I feel like Im in good shape politically, Rohrabacher told the Times. My constituents couldnt care less about this. They are not concerned about Russia. They are concerned about the taxes on their home. They are concerned about illegal immigrants coming into their neighborhood and raping people.
According to The New York Times, Mueller is seeking to interview the congressman about his meeting with Flynn and Flynn Jr., while both the F.B.I. and the Senate Intelligence Committee want to hear Rohrabachers account of the meeting with Assange. Meanwhile, Rohrabachers fellow G.O.P. lawmakers have moved to limit his power. According to the Times, Ed Royce, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, ousted Rohrabachers top aide, Paul Behrends, in July amid questions about his ties to Russian lobbyists, and exerted greater oversight over Rohrabachers actions as chairman of the subcommittee. And, back in California, Rohrabachers upcoming re-election bid could be complicated by challenges on both flanks.

(3,867 posts)On June 15, 2016, Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy told a group of Republicans, "There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God." Paul Ryan ended the conversation, saying "No leaks. This is how we know we're a real family here."[12]

(22,976 posts)Is there a bigger agenda than just stabbing-and-grabbing to gain individual wealth? (Which in itself is bad enough.)
My tinfoil-hatted ruminations center around a new-ish configuration of countries: USA, Russia and most of Northern Europe, bonded together as the planets white hope, as they turn the world into a very restricted, rich-whites-only club, ready to do battle against the rising tide of brown people displaced by warfare and drought due to climate change.
