Pardon Me?

I see a number of posts worrying about Manafort and Gates being pardoned.

I am not a lawyer, don't play one on TV, but dated one in another lifetime.

Pardons will help these two by keeping them out of prison . . . . at least on federal stuff. State charges are who something else.

Pardons really don't help Trump.

Once pardoned, the Ukraine Boys can be subpoenaed. Being pardoned as they are, they can't be prosecuted. This rendering the Fifth Amendment useless to them. They will be compelled to tell all. And if they lie (remember, Mueller already knows everything he needs to know about all of them, including President Fatass) they become criminally liable for federal charges.

All pardons will do is make it a little easier for Mueller to get what he wants.

All of the above is my understanding of pardons in the context of Manafort and Gates. I welcome corrections if I am wrong.

In a sense this is exactly what happened today with Rick Gates. He lied to Mueller in his "Queen for a Day" proffer. Today he was charged with a separate offense and all of what he told them in the proffer can now be used against him...hence the flip.

4. Pardons could also be seen as obstruction of justice if it stops people from cooperating
