I did not think there were any silver linings in this tragedy --but if the younger generation will help in the demise of the bloody NRA, then something good may come of this horrible time.

The big loser in CNNs Wednesday night Town Hall to address the horrific shooting last week in Parkland, Florida was the NRA by far. The NRA not only potentially lost a generation of young people as members but from the sound of the audience at the Town Hall last night, its fair to say that many view the NRA as the enemy. And they should.
The NRA and the politicians theyve bankrolled value easy access to guns over their lives. And the audience Wednesday night filled with younger people many of whom just last week were dodging bullets from an AR-15, a weapon the NRA fought to legalize after it was banned from 1994 to 2004 as part of the federal assault weapons ban got that.
These high school students may be teenagers, but they know the deal. They fully understand the power of the NRA and how politicians are beholden to campaign donations. And that led us to one of the most compelling moments Ive ever seen on this issue.

And last night Kasky stood up again for others in his generation who truly fear that a gunman will descend upon their school with weapon of war and slaughter them. He had a chance to ask Florida Senator Marco Rubio a question, a man who boasts an A-plus rating from the NRA and who has received over $3 million in donations from the organization............................

(19,204 posts)Not any more. The executioner's face has been bared for all to see. The executioner's henchmen have been exposed as well. The NRA hid in the background for decades, and most Americans forgot about them. The NRA bought their politicians, they got legislation passed that furthered their agenda, and the agenda of the death merchants - gun manufacturers.
These young adults ripped the bandages off the still bleeding wounds for all to see. Everyone saw that the NRA and their Republican sycophants didn't care. All they cared about was continuing easy access to these weapons of war, and then paid lip service to these psychologically traumatized young adults by acting as if they were concerned. Your see their "solution" to the tsunami of guns in our country is more guns, in their schools.
The NRA and their Republican toadies can't hide anymore. The executioner's face is now in plain view. Wayne LaPierre and Dana Loesch have put a face to the NRA, an extremely uncaring and vicious face, and the entire country now knows.

I had never heard Dana Loesch speak before this incident. My God, the woman is odious.

(108,980 posts)based on the views of millennials in GUN OWNING HOUSEHOLDS.
And since, according to the article, the millennials already had very negative views about the NRA, I think the Valentine's day massacre COULD be a game-changer.
From the article:
Respondents aged 18-29 are the least likely in the country to support a renewed ban on assault weapons, at 49 percent, a fact that has helped drive nationwide support down to a record low.

(54,415 posts)They have been the enemy of younger Americans for a LONG time now (considering the number of school shootings over the years).
Being under fire and a little desperate to save what is left of their image, I just think they are being more open about it these days. But they have been no friend of young people for decades.
