Unlikely to score a big domestic victory heading into the midterm elections and his own reelection, President Trump is trying a new angle in his effort to broker a meaningful peace deal in the Middle East.
* Trump has accelerated his diplomatic efforts among quarreling Arab monarchies, starting with an upcoming series of White House visits by leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, Axios' Jonathan Swan reported last night.
* Why it matters: The administration hopes these separate meetings could lead to a summit in the U.S. in late spring, perhaps focused on Qatar and its ties to terrorism.
Any progress in the Middle East would be a respite for Trump from the homefront, which yesterday brought a month's worth of news:

(23,160 posts)He wants the "appearance" of wanting peace while actively ensuring even worse turmoil in the Middle East. That's why he's put a Zionist in charge of this, because he knows jared hates Palestinians and wants to make them slaves and give all their land to Israel. That's why his family has been funding the illegal settlers stealing Palestinian land for decades.
He may want the appearance of trying for peace as a distraction, but he totally wants escalation of war, not de-escalation.

(101,385 posts)son-in-law to lead his Middle East policy. And he's decimated the State Department. It's a farce that would never achieve anything. Trump has actually encouraged the splits among Arab monarchies that the USA could have formerly have counted on to be friendly. This is the White House saying "ignore that we've made this worse in the past year - if there's any improvement, that's a hugh win for us!"
