What is Romney's game in running for the Senate? I don't get it.

If it were to prepare himself to primary Trump, then his meekly accepting Trump's endorsement totally ruined that.

If he thinks he can play cute and "survive" until Trump is removed by the Mueller probe and then run for the GOP nomination, the GOP will be so tarnished by then he wouldn't stand a chance in a general election.

Did he really want to get back in the politics game just to be a Senator for a term or two and not run for President?

They built adjacent mansions in Salt Lake gated community after he lost last election.

Huge mansions. Josh's has a Rose Garden walkway to a smaller building very similar to the White house.

12. Perhaps Fulfilling Mormon White Horse Prophesy

Feb 2018

(just perhaps)

From Slate:

The prophecy is attributed to Mormonism’s founder, Joseph Smith Jr. In 1843, Smith purportedly told his followers that on the day when “the Constitution of the United States is almost destroyed… hang[ing] like a thread,” out of the “Rocky Mountains” the “great and mighty” Mormon people will, like the “White Horse” of the Book of Revelation, rush east to save the Constitution.

While the White Horse Prophecy itself is almost certainly apocryphal, Mormon leaders in the nineteenth century consistently taught, as Joseph Smith’s successor Brigham Young did in 1868, “if the Constitution of the United States is to be saved at all it must be done by this [Mormon] people.”

I think he wants to be senator. Since he was previously a governor, I assume that being a senator would be "easier" and just as prestigious.

I also think it is to keep his "family legacy" going.

He has sons who are interested in politics.

This is his last hurrah, and he has more money than he knows what to do with at this point anyway. If you're 70, in decent health, and have enough money to keep you in Grecian Formula 16 (and Grecian mansions) for the next seven centuries, you either run for office, write novels or die of boredom. I'm supposing he hasn't the talent to write and figures he can die of boredom any time he likes.
