The secret service doesn't like yelling, hand waving, fast movements, etc. They tell you this when you work around the Pres. and VP.

(34,085 posts)Generally, gambling is illegal - so things that are awarded based on pure chance must not alter the odds based on making a contribution.
That's why McDonalds/Starbucks/etc. prize games always have alternative free entry - and language in the fine print that guarantees that making a purchase does not increase your chances of winning.
The "fine print" here seems to comply with such laws:
BUT the top right of the link says, "Donate to double your chances."
ETA: I filed a complaint with the office of the attorney general for DC.

I still might try and win a way to resist in person, although I suspect the winners will be heavily vetted.

(940 posts)10. DETERMINATION OF WINNERS: Ten (10) potential winners will be chosen by random drawing, from the pool of all eligible entries received during the Entry Period. The drawing will occur at the NRCC in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Sponsor may, at its discretion, conduct background checks on some or all of the potential winners to ensure they do not present security risks to the NRCC. The Sponsor will then select one (1) winner best representing, in the sole judgment of Sponsor, the NRCCs support across the country, and one (1) prize notice will be distributed. The winners will be notified no later than Saturday, March 17, 2018, by email or telephone.
11. WINNER RESTRICTIONS: As a condition of receipt of the Prize, except where prohibited by law, the winners must execute and deliver to Sponsor (a) an Affidavit of Eligibility; (b) a Liability Release; and (c) a Publicity Release giving the NRCC permission to use, royalty-free, the name, hometown, and photographs and/or recordings of the winners in campaign promotional material or advertising. The winners must respond to his/her notification and complete and return all required documents within one (1) day of notification in order to be awarded the Prize. If the winner does not meet eligibility requirements, fails to respond to the notification within one (1) day, or fails to return the signed documents within one (1) day, he or she will be disqualified, and an alternate winner will be selected from the remaining entries, in the same manner as outlined above.
So basically they pick 10 at random, then choose the best one of the ten. Then they do background checks and weed out any anti-trumpers.
