Maryland Legislators To Debate Red Flag Law On Guns

In the wake of the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, so-called red flag laws, or gun violence restraining orders, are being debated in state capitals around the country, including in Annapolis. Lawmakers in Maryland are slated to debate a bill Thursday that would create "lethal violence protection orders."
The Maryland bill, which was introduced before the Parkland shootings by Maryland House Delegate Geraldine Valentino-Smith of Prince Georges County, would allow family members or police to petition a judge for a temporary restraining order that would allow police to seize guns or ammunition.
