(65,192 posts)Unless there was a rebate, was there enough revenue generated by offering discounts to NRA members that made it worth even doing it.
And, an Insurance Company? And insurance company gave discounts because somebody owns guns? That makes no sense, absent some actuarial legerdemain. (AKA: fudging the numbers.)

(65,192 posts)That's some business model there, huh? Murder insurance? For the victim, or the perpetrator?
If for the victim, isn't that just an AD&D policy?

(65,192 posts)Like, just don't shoot an innocent victim with a gun, might be a simpler solution.

(17,486 posts)don't use and probably never have used services from these companies.
Heck, I don't think all that many of them are actually NRA members.

(17,486 posts)my implied point was that any harm to those entities would be minimal. My point certainly is supporting yours.
I've read that the NRA is multiple entities. One is a non-profit devoted to education. The rest seemed ill defined in the articles I read. Some of what they do is public knowledge. We don't know the whole story.

(1,040 posts)I was not aware that NRA members were 'entitled' to discounts. What is the logic behind this?
What other organizations offer these discounts (AARP)? I know a few companies give AAA members a discount but nothing on the scale of Delta.
Sorry if this is a stupid question.

(9,116 posts)A fringe benefit of my job is that I get discounts at a number of local businesses. This benefits those local businesses because people are more likely to shop at their locations if they know they're getting a discount. My employer employs thousands of people. That's a lot of potential customers.

(17,486 posts)"entitled", not so much, but minimal discounts are often available. My credit cards, Credit Union, Bank, professional groups and others have these, as well as AARP. These discounts are usually applicable only to the highest rates. When I traveled often for work, none of these were better than what a good travel agent or a few phone calls could do.

(16,646 posts)I'm not familiar with how generous all of these discount were, but quite often they are not discounts off of the widely available rates. Usually they are off the "rack rate" for a hotel room, or a "full size car" at auto rentals. Airlines are often off of refundable tickets, or some higher priced tickets. My employer has dozens of these discounts available to us, and I rarely find them "worth while".
