What are the first five steps you take? Executive actions, directions/recommendations to Congress for legislation, political appointees, cabinet nominees. Whatever. Just the first five.
I'll start.
1. Stop ICE from all illegal immigrant actions.
2. Restart DACA, complete with legislation.
3. Restore national monument protections to Obama era.
4. Restore all EPA environmental protections.
5. Ban sale of assault weapons. Permanently. Period.

Start cutting back on the military. Why do we still have bases in Germany?

After that, in addition to your priorities
6. Enact net-neutrality
7. Start working towards single-payer health care (after restoring the ACA, of course)
8. Get the Dept of Energy back to work on renewable energy sources
9. Expand the federal judiciary to counter all the right-wing barely qualified Trump appointees

Im not a supporter of Sanders 2016 campaign, but I understand his frame: focus on issues that apply to everyone, rather than focus attention on identity politics issues.

(10,749 posts)But you gotta start somewhere. This is my start.
I've written before about my concern that there is no one core entity doing just this. Prioritizing steps for the next Democratic president. Maybe prospective candidates are doing this. Maybe liberal think tanks are doing this. Maybe academics are doing this. Maybe the DNC is doing this. Maybe there are DUers doing this. But I have little confidence that anyone is assembling a cohesive, coherent, and fantastically comprehensive plan designed to undo the damage that has been done and that will continue to be done until 2020.
Yes, yes, I know. We have to GOTV, continue turning red seats blue in state legislatures and governors' offices, etc. None of what I've suggested, and none of what others are writing, is meant to be comprehensive, and no recommendations are meant to suggest that others are not important as well. But we're talking about rebuilding a nation.
