London 2012 Olympics: Are you watching Mitt? Michelle Obama gives a fun masterclass in diplomacy

27 July 2012

As a lesson in good natured statesmanship - if not to say simple manners - it was a masterclass.

[She's a winner: Michelle Obama raises her arms in delight as David Beckham applauds during a football game with children as part of the Let's Move-London event at Winfield House Picture: JEWEL SAMAD/AFP/GettyImages]

For Michelle Obama cast aside stuffy protocol to join in the fun and games to celebrate today’s opening of the Olympic games with more than 1,000 children.

The First Lady met the children - most of them from U.S. military families - in the grounds of Winfield House, the official residence of the U.S. ambassador in London.

She was joined by David Beckham and Olympic gold-medal sprinter Carl Lewis who signed autographs.

She said: “I’m so excited,” after jogging to the stage as a marching band played the University of Florida fight song.

“I am thrilled to be here on London for the 2012 Olympic games. I am proud to be leading the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony.”

re: "Seriously, I don't get this at all unless the horse is part of Mitt's business, which it's not."

Mitt has many businesses, and can create a new one any time he wants. So he can easily decide he wants to be in the horse business, and then the horse is a business expense.

Whatever you do for a hobby, if it generates income, it is a business. You have to declare the income, and you are entitled to take related deductions against it.

For example, since he presumably has a championship line horse, he can command substantial breeding fees for it. One customer, and bingo, he's in the horse business, and all his horse expenses are tax deductible. In fact, just the fact that his horse competes "professionally" and may generate "winnings" may be enough to declare it a business. At least it would if it ever won anything. If it generates income, it is a business against which you can assign expenses. Then when you declare the income, instead of it all being taxable profit, you can deduct expenses associated with it.

And for the record, yes, I'm jealous that his wife gets one with a $77,000 tax write-off.

So yes, I can unequivocally say I am jealous that they get a writeoff on something that I would also enjoy, but that they are so wealthy that it doesn't matter a shit to them.

I love my cat more than they loved Seamus or Ralafaca, I can say that with sincerity. She will never starve, be harmed or be mistreated.

For a white, misogynist Mormon super rich guy, it's got to sting really bad to get THIS MUCH bad press in London, of all places, in one day!!!!

Michele Obama, 48 years old, mother of two, and First Lady with the body of the 25 year old woman, schmoozing with the likes of David Beckham, NOT David Cameron...and getting rave reviews and flattering photos in the press, as she actually DOES SOMETHING and MAKES AN INTERNATIONAL NON-CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT by her actions, not by her words alone.

It's got to burn big time for Mitt Romney to be seeing this!

She sees heads of state, war hero's, business innovators, celebrities who bring fame and fortune to the UK, etc.

She does NOT see a candidate in any foreign election while they are running for office. She will see the PM while he is an incumbent, but only for official business, not in connection with his/her campaign.

From what we've seen so far of the Holder justice dept., MittWitt has nothing to worry about from the DOJ. Banksters walk free 4 years after the crime of all time. Mitt's own avarice, arrogance, and sense of entitlement will do him in. I'm beginning to think he may be ousted from the ticket at the convention. Or before.

His world debut has been a dud, whatever. It will be interesting to see how much US media play it gets.
