Oh dear: Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn topped the list of worst dressed stars at this year's Academy Awards
Shiny disaster: Salma Hayek's dress was baffling to behold, with the combination of sequins, layered ruffles and military-inspired neck embellishments serving as more of an eye sore than a style statement
OTT: Actress Blanca Blanco also hit a low note with her red-and-white dress, which flashed far too much flesh thanks to its tacky neckline and thigh-high split
Take a seat: Singer Andra Day, who is performing at the ceremony, wore a bizarre dress that looked more like a pair of curtains than a black tie dress, standing out for all the wrong reasons thanks to its unflattering shape
Missing something? Singer St. Vincent appeared to be missing part of her dress, and the part that was remaining served only to prompt several unanswered questions regarding the bizarre arm shape and unique hemline
Eek: Although the color of Renee Bargh's dress was incredibly flattering with her skintone, the shape of the gown, as well as its awkward lace additions gave the overall look a rather awkward finish
Inspired by Bozo? Kelly Ripa looked like she had borrowed accessories from a clown costume in order to achieve the garish bows on the back of her otherwise-elegant dress
An embellishment too far: Producer Monika Bacardi, and TV hosts Tanika Ray and Sara Haines all landed themselves on the worst-dressed list because of the over-the-top additions to their dresses, from ugly lace to ridiculous patterns
Feeling blue? Louise Roe's gown (left) looked as though it had been painted in a child's art class, while TV host Nancy O'Dell's royal blue frock hit a tacky note thanks to its too-high split and glittering embellishments
Fifty Shades of Rippon: Figure skater Adam wore what appeared to be a bondage-inpisred suit
Awkward: Actress Paz Vega swamped her figure in a too-big dress that had an incredibly garish pattern
Flashing the flesh: Lebanese actress Rita Hayek wore a multicolored gown that showed off far too much side boob
Shiny: Songwriter and singer Taura Stinson went too far with the shimmering fabric that did not photograph well

(6,855 posts)The fashion industry spends millions on the Oscars. They will foist upon us the fashions of the year. We have to push back and early. Right now, bustles are in my future and I am not having it.
LeftInTX
(25,436 posts)Maybe they like a designer for such and such reason, so they wear the designers clothes to the Oscar's even though they may be outlandish.

(6,288 posts)Much of the Red Carpet attire is selected by the Designer to promote their name.
Often the vip is simply the 'model'.
However, sometimes it ok to put your foot down. Really.

(32,086 posts)Ditto for Adam Rippon's "bondage" suit. His shoes, OTOH...
Nothing wrong with the way Viola Davis' dress fit her, either.
I never even heard of 2/3 of those other people.

(61,695 posts)It reminds me too much of bedspread fabric or some other decorator fabric for a bedroom. I wish it had been a solid color, maybe color-shifting with the weave.
GoCubsGo
(32,086 posts)Yeah. It would have been nicer if it were solid, but I didn't really mind the pattern.

(3,437 posts)...there are always critics... I just tuned into oscar, watch Hayek with two other women, the photo of her dress doesnt reflect it's design and colour .it's is absolutely ravishing.. Hayek exudes pasion, alma y corazon..always enjoy her movies, acting or directing or both. She is a very gifted and talented individual.

(5,325 posts)I miss the days when the dresses were beautiful and elegant. Now too many of them are just looking to see who can be the most outrageous and others seem to just want to provoke commentary, regardless of whether it's positive or negative.
I did like Whoppie's and Viola Davis's dresses, though. Both, IMO, were flattering, elegant and tasteful.

(27,815 posts)And that male presenter in the velvet jacket that was too short and just too small on him.
Those dresses with the sheer panels have to look better in person than they do on-screen.

And second, is her showing up in a blue dress some kind of sick joke?
