Universal background checks would be a logistical nightmare.
Then let it be a logistical nightmare.
At this point the argument seems to be: it it is difficult, or doesnt work at a rate of 100%, its just too much of a cross for gun owners to carry around.
Im done worrying about whether or not gun owners are inconvenienced in their hobby. That is the least of my concerns.
God forbid we inconvenience gun owners.
If I sell my car to my son who lives with me, both of us still have to go down to the BMV and change the title, and he has to have insurance on the vehicle, and obviously a drivers' license. But requiring every gun to be licensed is just too inconvenient for gun owners?

(3,784 posts)............than making people who want a driver's license take a certain number of hours of a driving class, then take a written test demonstrating that they know the basic traffic laws and guidelines for safe driving, get a learner's permit, then take an actual field test where they demonstrate that they're able to safely operate a vehicle, BEFORE turning them loose on the street? And then make them renew their license every 5 years?
That's my problem with the gun nuts and their, "it won't stop ALL gun crime, therefore let's do NOTHING," logic. I WANT it to be as hard as humanly possible for someone to get an instrument of death. Besides, contrary to what they'll shout at you when defending the inanimate objects they love like family for some reason, the DATA shows that the stricter the gun laws, the fewer gun crimes are committed.
I WANT you to have to jump through as many hoops as possible in order to get something that will make killing easy. Killing should be hard. It should be the hardest thing in the world to accomplish.

(9,269 posts)Posted that we should not (or it would be unconstitutional to) register guns like cars because "owning a gun is a constitutional right and owning a car is not." Huh?? Wouldn't that be part of a "well regulated militia"? I don't even bother to reply to him anymore, it's just scary to see how they "think".

Doing the right thing is NEVER a nightmare.
