Poll: Trump trails generic Democrat by 8 points

Poll: Trump trails generic Democrat by 8 points
By STEVEN SHEPARD 03/07/2018 06:02 AM EST

President Donald Trump’s new campaign manager has his work cut out for him.

A week after naming Brad Parscale to run his reelection effort, Trump is 8 points behind a generic Democratic candidate, 44 percent to 36 percent, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll. Nearly one in five voters, 19 percent, are undecided.

Other indicators also suggest Trump is in perilous shape at this early stage. The president’s approval rating in the new poll is 43 percent, down from 46 percent last week. And Democrats’ lead on the generic congressional ballot is up to 7 points, 44 percent to 37 percent.

19%. Heck, even non-voting isn't all apathy. People think and do things for reasons. Disregard all those reasons at peril.

Just think of the heinous evil BS he is going to pull in three years!

This is his fucking honeymoon period FFS and he is polling lower than whale shit on the bottom of the Mariana Trench!

Give the shitgibbon 3 more years and Satan himself would vote against him!

He has given up trying to win over a majority of Americans. He knows that he will NEVER do that. But he knows that if he plays his cards right, it DOESN"T MATTER. Our system is not designed to translate the will of the majority into either policy or power. Thanks to Gerrymandering of the House, thanks to the Senate (half of which is elected by states representing only 16% of the population) and thanks to the Electoral College, which theoretically can be won with as little as 23% of the total popular vote. Trump now realizes that if he plays his cards right, keeps his base activated, 35-40% of the vote is realistically all that is needed to give him a fighting chance at re-election. If he gets back up to mid 40's and that 43-45 percent is distributed rightly, he's almost a shoo-in -- especially if he is aided by a little voter-suppression in the right places.

The "wisdom" of our Founding Fathers who did not trust the people at large, who bent over backwards to preserve slavery, and thought the EC would somehow protect us from demagogues like Trump coming back to haunt us.

Do you realize how huge an 8 point lead is right now. That’s running against a generic candidate, a literal question mark. And it’s still up by 8.
