Dem Rep: Trump meeting with Kim could help prevent 'catastrophic war'

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) said Thursday night that a planned meeting between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could be “a good first step to preventing a catastrophic war."

Lieu's comments came shortly after South Korean national security adviser Chung Eui-Yong announced that Trump will meet with Kim Jong Un by May, and that North Korea has agreed to abandon its nuclear program.

“Kim Jong Un said that he’s committed to denuclearization. Kim pledged that North Korea would refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests,” he said, adding that the North Korean leader has expressed “eagerness” to meet with Trump.

Members of the Trump administration have previously said they’d be willing to hold talks with North Korea, but that they would remain focused on getting Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear program.

with the his election, where he ran on exactly doing this, and then the removal of the military leaders that pulled the strings of all the past SK Presidents since the Korean War?

President Moon is fulfilling a major campaign pledge.
