Why does a 7 year sentence for an everyday sort of inner city street criminal seem common, but . . .

. . . the same 7 year sentence for a white collar criminal who was a filthy rich CEO seem remarkable?

Skrelli's sentence today was 7 years for crimes involving STEALING (they call it defrauding) lots of money from lots of people. The street criminals who get in the 7 to 10 year range are often guilty of relatively minor crimes. Far less - if money is the determinant - than most white collar crimes, truth be told.

Why is that?

Asking for a friend . . . . .

Judges do not like to see you over and over, they feel like you are not learning your lesson. Plus many of the street level crimes involve weapons.

I would rather see that punk do 2 years of hard time in a max security prison than 7 years in a Club Fed minimum security facility.

When people would tell me so and so got a "fair" trial. I would later ask them if they were charged with a crime would they want a court appointed attorney or O.J.s dream team. They all said the dream team. So someone tell be what's fair about a trial when a poor defendant is defended by someone without much in the way of resources and a rich defendant can hire an army of lawyers, jury consultants and investigators besides being able to post bail so as to assist with their defense?
