What has been protecting Sessions is that top Republicans, like Grassley, who chairs the Judiciary Committee that will hold the confirmation hearings, has been very public that Trump should not fire Sessions.

It is true he has not EXPLICITLY said that he would not hold hearings, it means that Republicans are trying to deter him from doing this. Not to mention, Democrats can fillibuster if they are convinced that the nominee will fire Mueller. The Republicans likely have only 50 votes as it seems unlikely McCain will travel across the country and come into the Senate to vote for the replacement. (Note Kennedy did on a Medicare or Medicaid vote, but that was something he very deeply believed in. There is no nobility in putting a Trump man in to fire Mueller.) Cochran's health is also a potential problem, not to mention any ONE Republican could vote no -- meaning that even though Democrats can filibuster, Trump may not even get 50 votes.

Morning Joe, which conducted the interview this morning, predicted a day of distraction. Seems they were spot on.

Can't they wait until the announcement. I think the media is being manipulated by selected leaks. Wait until an administration official goes on record. You don't have to be the first. Failing that, if a source burns them, then out them after the fact.

She is in a position to know a great deal about WH and just she said these Kelly resigning stories are unreliable rumors because he is determined to stay on unless Trump fires him.

Can't imagine how or why anyone would want to stay on with such uncertainty with an unstable lunatic who could decide to fire you at any minute.

I think many of the departures are going on voluntarily to avoid future implications with Russian back room deals. I truly believe some of these people were not involved in collusion and their early departure might save them some legal trouble. I think the WH is in a race to the finish to try and takedown/destroy what they can of the American democracy before the shit hits the fan. Wouldn't you if Russia was holding you hostage with blackmail?
