The Kochs have a message for Hispanics: Not all Republicans are like Trump

By Annie Linskey GLOBE STAFF MARCH 16, 2018

ORLANDO — On an evening here last week, Allison Martin, who works for a group backed by two of the wealthiest men on the planet, pitched Hispanic immigrants on the benefits of a $1.5 trillion tax cut President Trump signed into law last year.

She handed out worksheets. She calculated savings on a whiteboard. She even used a translator so her Spanish-speaking audience of 20 people could follow along.

“We are journeying toward economic freedom,” said Martin, a Florida-based staffer with one of the many organizations controlled by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch. “When we are journeying toward economic freedom, we need money.” The audience nodded in agreement.

It’s no accident that the Koch apparatus is targeting this audience: Hispanics who have recently arrived in Florida and have every reason to disdain the country’s harsh-on-immigration, paper-towel-tossing president. The Koch groups, in a subtle but shrewd tactical move, are trying to build a bulwark against the Trump-fueled erosion of support among Hispanics in key states like this one. And they’re trying to prove that their key priority, the massive tax cut, should be popular with immigrant newcomers and the economically struggling. After funding the Tea Party movement that ushered in an era of complete Republican control of the federal government, the Koch groups spent millions of dollars lobbying for this tax cut.

Their privately held company has benefited from it to the tune of more than $1 billion a year, according to one estimate by a left-leaning group.

They are afraid that the place they have built up for themselves might soon be on the decline or much worse. This often happens to people who have determined that their ass is more important than their thinking brain that put it there.

They've been at it since at least the 1970s. Their "economic freedom" (for billionaires) agenda isn't actually very popular, so to get the votes to pass it they cultivated a voter base that would single-issue vote on a few hot-button issues. Just like the conservatives, who had plenty of overlap with the Koch's pet agenda, did.

You guys paved that road so that you (and nobody else) could drag race on it. Now Trump is drag-racing on it, and you're trying to pretend your own drag-racers are just ordinary cars.

There is ONE LARGE GROUP of Hispanics who "recently arrived in Florida" and they are from Puerto Rico, an island that was utterly devastated - not only by mother nature, but by the ilk that got elected in 2016 that made their misery worse by full-force utilizing supply-side bullshit as the response to handling the catastrophe. And then they went on to delay substantial enough disaster aid until 6 months after the event.

The example of GOP cronyism and malfeasance -

Small Montana firm lands Puerto Rico’s biggest contract to get the power back on

The company, located in Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's hometown, had only two full-time employees when Maria struck but says its plans call for ramping up rapidly by hiring short-term contract workers.

If they think they are stupid enough to go along with this, then they are in for a rude awakening.

Methinks they do not protest at all. They are weaker than Trump because they defend him and support the bullshit he tries to ram down everyone's throats. And if it's not him in power, it's the next person up. And the policies may be amped down a bit, but they remain the same policies.

They just like Trump. It is only by a matter of degrees.

We need to send a clear message to all minorities as to the real effects of the tax bill in the long-term. Let's hope our Democratic Party leaders are aware of this scam, and implement counter attacks.

Their tax bill is a lot like sex or getting drunk - feels really good for a little while, but watch out for the lasting consequences, LOL.
