In Minnesota it's the BCA, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The state version of the FBI

"A mass casualty incident (often shortened to MCI and sometimes called a multiple-casualty incident or multiple-casualty situation) is any incident in which emergency medical services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties."

If on desktop, double-click the word "MCI Declared" in your post, click on search good for "MCI Declared", and you'll find your answer in greater detail.

I do that with most anything that I'm not familiar with.

I'd also recommend reading the wiki link; it's not terribly deep but it provides for some good context to different situations and how they're dealt with.

I hadn't seen it in the article or heard anything like that on the NBC 4 news: Nothing yet other than that "Several people transported to local hospital"

I've got lots of nurses and first responders in my family so it's been a familiar term.
