Trump does it to project onto an opponent a fault of his own. If he can stick somebody with another label, it won't as easily come back to him.

"Low Energy" Jeb Bush, but Trump was the one that needed a golf cart to keep up with the walking 65 year old Angela Merkel, and he's the one that's gone out golfing 100+ times in a year.
Lyin' Ted Cruz, but Trump has shattered every record in the book for lies told and "pants of fire" level lies.
"Crazy" Bernie Sanders, but Trump is the one crazily tweeting out late night/early morning attacks on celebrities and 4th rate powers like North Korea
"Crooked" Hillary Clinton, but it's Trump who has filled the DC "swamp" with corrosive toxic waste.
"Low IQ" Maxine Waters, but it's Trump that knows little to nothing about government and the Constitution

And, of course, his favorite "Little" - Little Marco Rubio, Liddle Bob Corker, Little Rocket Man, Little Adam Schiff... and, we all know what that one means.
