GOP Has An Answer They Will Just Suppress The Youth Vote. Wonder If They Are Working On It.

We must be vigilant and be ready to push back aggressively against GOP.

In reality the GOP wants to restrict voting for only voters who will guarantee to vote for them. They want elections to be run like Puptin runs elections. We must break this scheme because they have already had enough success rigging elections. We have already seen how it works. And we must knock down the voter ID crap as absurd and un American.

And we have to be mean and vocal about their criminality. And we have to make sure so many youth register and vote they cannot be denied.

It's been going on for years as part of the general voter suppression effort. It's not just about POC, the GOP agenda is to block any voting bloc that doesn't agree with them.

and living at college will not be accepted as a qualification for absentee or early voting at their permanent address.

They will not be able to use their college ID to vote - even if it is a state university, and it's governement issued.

can choose to register to vote either in their home location, or where they attend school. I do know that my younger son voted in 2008 in Tulsa, where he was attending college, rather than in his home town in Kansas.

But the voter ID laws the GOP is pushing will make it harder for students to register to vote. They will have to provide a birth certificate or proof of citizenship, photo ID, and a proof of residency such as a utility bill. I can see GOP election officials denying student dorm residency proofs as insufficient so the entire legal chain will have to climb back to SCOTUS again.

He could not use a utility bill since they are all in my name. I think they accepted a credit card bill, but frankly I don't remember. And we're in our 60s!

States that meet the requirements for Real ID should only need that DL in order to register someone to vote. Of course most places that do meet those requirements also have motor voter and can register people to vote at the same time they get a new DL. There are still stringent requirements for ID, but you'd only have to do it once.

kids have driver licenses, college IDs, many have passports. We can't worry what the other side does or does not do, WE have to be sure voters are registered, have the required IDs and be sure they get off their asses and VOTE....

The Election Was Stolen – Here’s How…

Friday, November 11, 2016

Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.

http://www.gregpalast.com/election-stolen-heres/

For example, in the swing state of North Carolina, it was reported that 6,700 Black folk lost their registrations because their registrations had been challenged by a group called Voter Integrity Project (VIP). VIP sent letters to households in Black communities “do not forward.” If the voter had moved within the same building, or somehow did not get their mail (e.g. if their name was not on a mail box), they were challenged as “ghost” voters. GOP voting officials happily complied with VIP with instant cancellation of registrations.

------------------------
This article lays out many of the tactics used for voter suppression. The excerpt above would be an example of a tactic used for suppressing the youth vote. Students move around a lot -- they will have to be careful to check that their registration is valid -- and beware of rethug elections officials.

Get the youth on the rolls and understand the benefit may be later, not sooner.

Obviously there will be every type of suppression attempt. That's a separate battle.

Flood them with numbers. They can't plug every leak.

...campuses. Make it too hard to get to your polling place without a car, or make you stand in line for hours to get in to the one polling booth on a campus of tens of thousands of young people.

They already do, by insisting that students cannot register to vote in the state/town/district where they live and go to school, but must apply for absentee ballots.

Expect to see Jim Crow flyers repurposed to target students: "Due to expected high turnout, YOUR voting day is not Tuesday, but Wednesday."

Ad nauseum.

Based on past behavior, expect this and plan for it. Educate youth activists. Get them involved at all levels in their counties.
