Trump's Approval Rate in Perspective

March 27, 2018 at 2:39 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

There’s no doubt that President Trump’s approval rate is on the rise. The FiveThirtyEight average shows it at 41% to 53% while the RealClearPolitics average has it at 43% to 53%. It hasn’t been that high since his first few months in office.

If Trump’s current 42% average approval rate holds up through the midterm elections, it will still be worse than all modern day presidents except Harry Truman and George W. Bush.

And as G. Elliott Morris shows, even at 42%, Republicans would be expected to lose a ton of seats in the House and Senate.

Another comparison: When Bill Clinton was plagued by the Monica Lewinsky scandal and not accomplishing much legislatively, he still had a 65% approval rating.
