5. I do too, but apparently some of the third-party sellers marketed through Amazon do not.

Didn't realize that.

Also, the Prez is so stupid he probably uses "Amazon" generically to apply to all on-line sales, like some people refer to soda pop as Coke.

I do buy some musical equipment on-line and save a ton on state sales tax. But, it really is unfair to local retailers. If I find a product at a local retailer at a comparable price considering they have to carry in in inventory, I will buy it there despite the sales tax and slightly higher price. I think trying a product out locally and buying it on-line, is unfair to the local store.

My state, like many ,just enacted a law requiring all on-line retailers to collect sales tax. I support that. So, trump is a little late to game.

13. I'm a small independent seller with some listings on Amazon.

They collect sales taxes on my sales only if they are shipped intrastate, the same as if I sold it directly from my shop. Interstate sales are exempt from sales tax at least in GA.

The states are beating trump to the punch.

Again, I don't think trump is just talking about Amazon.

jealousy of being ranked 737 vs. 1 on Forbes gets his Stupid Juices running BTW. Here is something that just makes me laugh. Mexico's Slim owns most to of the NYTimes,Donnie slams the Times every chance he can. And to think,Slim was one of Donnie's Celeb Buddies back in the day.

After they drove smaller businesses out every place they put up a store. Bezos should sue him and stop this persecution of businesses who won't bow down to him.

9. Online taxes are complicated
Thu Mar 29, 2018, 02:08 PM

The law says a retailer must collect sales taxes online if they have a “nexus” in that state.

In all states, for example, if you have a retail storefront or warehouse in that state then you are required to collect sales tax on any sales in that state, even if it was packed and shipped outside that state.

So if you have a warehouse in PA and retail shop on VA, if you ship from PA to VA it must be taxed. But if you ship to a state where you don’t have any physical presence you don’t have to charge that area sales tax.

Where it gets messy is what constitutes a “nexus”. Some states go so far as to say if you showed up and worked a trade show for one day in that state it counts and now you must charge sales tax. Others won’t do that.

Several years ago, Amazon didn't collect state or local taxes because states didn't require it. The laws were changed and Amazon now does collect those taxes wherever they exist. His scummy developer buddies and crooked real estate investors at Mar a Lago probably remember the former situation and don't even know about the latter.

Never forget that every bit of information he picks up is from Fox News and his personal acquaintances. (I don't think he's had a real friend since his mentor, Roy Cohn died.)
