...and has traditional values. Oh, and has overcome adversity. And is expected to finish about 12th... but God knows extremely boring reality TV is better than sporting events featuring a bunch of foreigners, right?.

I think NBC invented the "up close and personal" soap opera Olympics thing in '92. ('96?) Didn't like it then and still do not.

The "on demand" assembly line production of heroes is modestly interesting from a cynical sociological point of view... but not so entertaining.
