Trump's ignorance about DACA is stunning

Though I don't see how anyone could be surprised, much less stunned, by Trump's ignorance. The two are synonymous, Trump and ignorance - a natural pairing that has resulted in an indistinguishable hot mess.

With his tweets, the President has displayed his ignorance of immigration laws, including those governing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. His social media outburst was as at best uninformed, and at worst blatantly misleading.

For starters, it makes absolutely no logical sense that the President would make a big deal of announcing "NO MORE DACA DEAL"-- in all caps, as though he were taking some bold new stance. Let's recall, he was the one who ended DACA, the program that allowed roughly 800,000 young people brought here illegally as children, known as the Dreamers, to live and work openly.

The President unilaterally began the unwinding of this program in September, with no plan to replace it, and since then has rejected several bipartisan proposals that would have provided a legislative fix for the plight of the Dreamers. It is nonsensical for Trump to be vowing that there will be "no more deal" when there is not now and never has been any realistic chance of a DACA deal.

Referring to what he regards as unchecked illegal entries at our southern border, the President tweeted, "These big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of DACA. They want in on the act!" But his anger about illegal border crossings seems motivated by something other than...reality.

manipulate fools and profit-chasing media, but he has big deficiencies that keep him from being a normal person. Including what is believed to be about a maximum 2-minute attention span, IF he's willing to listen at all, and he has almost no interest in most subjects. So even if he pays attention briefly, he usually forgets most things almost immediately.

Ask the admirals who showed him around the Navy's new multi-billion-dollar hydroelectric catapult system. He came off the ship calling the obsolete and new systems "steam" and "digital" and declaring they were tossing the new system because it didn't work and returning to "steam."

To qualify for DACA, immigrants must have lived in the United States since 2007, have arrived in the country before age 16 and have been younger than 31 on June 15, 2012. No one arriving in the country after 2007 is eligible.

I've seen only a couple of brief items about Trump's latest pissiness, and nobody in the media seems to remember that it was Trump who issued an executive order ending the DACA program. Why they don't remember this salient fact is beyond me; it's not like it was some minor action taken in the dim recesses of yesteryear where nobody can quite put their finger on the reason the DACA program is being terminated.
