because trump believes Bezos doesn't pay enough taxes, or that Amazon is hurting the Mom and Pop stores around the country.
The reason is very simple. Trump is a petty, ego maniac, who cannot stand the fact that Bezos is not only more wealthy than trump will ever be, he is far more respected and admired among the business community.
One also should not be deceived by Trump's rant how Amazon is hurting the Post Office because they are "giving Amazon a sweetheart deal on postal rates". Trump cares very little about the United States Postal service, and currently is looking at options he has available to increase postal rates, not to "help the US postal service", but to hurt Amazon. In fact, trump has been one of the biggest proponents to privatize the USPS.
While there are legitimate arguments to be made concerning some of Amazon's predatory business practices, that has nothing to do with Trump's war with Jeff Bezos. The only person Trump cares about is Trump.
Perhaps when Trump starts ranting about how littles taxes Amazon pays, one of the illustrious members of the press might be so inclined to ask him about HIS TAX RETURNS, and how much taxes he pays?
I have never seen an administration with so many conflicts of interest, nepotism, along with polices specifically aimed to benefit his businesses, and yet the media and Congress remain relatively silent on this.
The hypocrisy of trump's criticism is unbelievable

(115,719 posts)Bezos owns the Washington Post as well as Amazon. Trump hates the Washington Post because they have been critical of him on their op-ed pages, and they have done some reporting that has uncovered some unsavory things about him.

Doubts are mounting.
If he truly did not, as you say, then he just drove himself into the ditch while simply giving the guy a lift.
He's now part of it.

(15,265 posts)Earlier this year twelve Democrats signed a letter addressed to the Department of Justice and Federal Trade concerning Amazon
The letter, signed by Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, and 11 other Democrats, warned against further monopolization and argued the Amazon-Whole Foods merger "should be scrutinized beyond the normal antitrust review process."

"Barry Lynn, director of the New America Foundation's Open Markets program, put it this way: "This is the crushing of competition. Amazon is monopolizing commerce in the United States. Now Amazon is seeking to become the company when you say to yourself, 'I'm going to go buy something' you think Amazon."
Lynn's concern was echoed by 12 members of Congress last year, who criticized Amazon in a letter addressed to the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission. The letter, signed by Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, and 11 other Democrats, warned against further monopolization and argued the Amazon-Whole Foods merger "should be scrutinized beyond the normal antitrust review process."
The letter is linked in the above link and was signed by Reps Donold Payne, Maxine Waters, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Gregory Meeks, Bennie G. Thompson, Federica Wison, Val Demings, Emmanuel Cleaver, Barbara Lee and Senator Cory Booker.

Trump hates the newspapers critical White House coverage and has accused Bezos of using the publication as a political sword to protect Amazons business interests. If I become president, oh do they have problems. Theyre going to have such problems, he said during a campaign rally in 2016. According to Axios, Trumps rich pals have added fuel to the fire by telling him that Amazon is hurting their businesses. His real estate buddies tell himand he agreesthat Amazon is killing shopping malls and brick-and-mortar retailers, Axios writer Jonathan Swan reports. Trump is also apparently hung up on the mistaken belief that Amazon is somehow fleecing the U.S. Postal Service. (Pretty much the opposite is true; Amazons packages are a crucial moneymaker for USPS.)

It's a personal, vindictive revenge campaign.. not so pure and simple. that should be obvious to anyone who's been paying attention to the rigged in Russian mole.
