He sent his lawyer to talk to Mueller last summer. But Pence was handpicked by Manafort. I don’t doubt he is in the crosshairs. And apparently he kept in contact with Manafort during the time Manafort was wearing a wire.

I don't recall hearing about that. Manafort is claiming innocence and is fighting his indictment. He seems to be at odds with Mueller. Are you sure about him wearing a wire?

it could be that he's one of the targets of the investigation. Mueller wanted to interview Trump related to obstruction, I believe. The Collusion/Conspiracy part of the investigation is just starting.
