Would security have to open each individual packaged tampon in case there's a weapon or homemade bomb or drugs inside?

That would really make school administrators hair stand up on end and provoke a reaction.

..... mindset that inhibits open discussions and communications about events pertinent to today's youth and our society in general.

The issue this young man is attempting to shine the spotlight upon is Privacy Issues. The school department issued a decree that must be followed so that a higher degree of student safety can be attained - post the 17 student/faculty deaths of the most recent school shooting.
This decree stipulates all school book back packs must now be clear and see into plastic to allow the inside contents to be viewed and recognized. The anticipation being if all back pack contents can now be viewed and no guns will be smuggled on to school property un-noticed and hopefully now will be immediately reported to school authorities if a gun is brought upon school premises.

This decree is a direct violation of student privacy issues.

Question one:
This covers clear see into student back packs. Are clear see into book bags also required to. What about gym bags are those required to be clear and see into also ? What do jocks now have to wear their dirty/sweaty jock strap all day long through out the school day and change into clean underwear only after they get home. Or else their sweaty jock strap is clearly visible in the clear see through gym bag they are now required to have as they parade around the hallways and classes during the school day. Finally what about large sports team duffle bags like a varsity football team member needs to lug equipment around in ? Helmet, shoulder pads, shin guards, elbow guards, uniform, and cleats. Does this sports equipment duffle bag also need to be a clear see through plastic variety too ?
Especially due to the fact that varsity team sports duffle bags are the general conveyance method to bring guns on to school property so that these guns can be brought in hidden and concealed for a planned attack on school property.

Have all these above loop holes been properly addressed in the name of gun safety ?

What about bulky jackets, thick long heavy winter coats, and long bulky trench coats ? You could wrap a long gun in a heavy coat to conceal it and then easily sneak it on to school property. Are heavy coats and bulky jackets now barred from school property in the interests of gun safety issues ?

Now back to the issue of student privacy at public schools.

Here is an issue that is ripe for discussion.
How much privacy is one required to surrender in order to retain only a minuscule of personal safety ? Why must there always be a trade off ? Why must we give something up that we cherish (-privacy-) for just a sliver of safety ?

This young man is trying to provoke that discussion. Do clear see through book back packs offer real gun safety. Or do they only offer a "feel good" faux (-false-) comfort of gun safety but is meaningless and only diminishes and degrades Rights to Privacy Issues.

This young man procured a clear see through clear plastic book back pack as school administrators decreed. He then filled the clear back pack with feminine hygiene products and the package box clearly visible to anyone near this back pack.

I applaud him for trying to kick this door open to provoke the gun safety/personal privacy discussion that should be addressed and balanced to the needs of the students involved.

He craftily draws in the female sector of his student class body in to this needed discussion by asking a rhetorical question:
"Do you really need to surrender your personal privacy issues by advertising to the world and the entire student body that you are currently experiencing your menstruation cycles or do you cherish and protect your privacy more than that ?" The privacy lost may far exceed the gun safety gains you were hopeful of and expected or anticipate and/or hope to realize.

Please think about this - as he kicked and forced open the possibility to have this needed discussion - Balance Gun Safety Against Personal Privacy Issues.

My contention is if he mixed some new fresh foil wrapped prophylactics into his clear see through book back pack he would draw the male population into the much needed discussion too - of balancing personal privacy issues against gun safety issues and meaningful ways to achieve the desired end result. Males, young males in particular shy away from indepth - detail discussions. This prop will likely draw them in to the discussion because an ice breaker personal pertinent issue is tossed their way.

I can guarantee you if a bunch of teen aged males saw a see through bag 1/2 full of feminine hygiene products and the 1/2 full of prophylactics they would ask "Hey dude what is that all about ?" By osmosis you have kicked open the discussion of Personal Privacy Issues VS Gun Safety Issues - which is no longer ripe - but has exploded into a long needed discussion to balance these two issues carefully against each other.

Sincere apologies to the more Puritanical thinkers among us - but the theater prop or lure - of a clearly visible see through bag of tampons and prophylactics was used as stage craft to provoke young teenagers to have that much needed discussion - Balancing Personal Privacy Issues -against- MEANINGFUL Gun Safety Issues - no one should really need to be forgiven or have to apologize.

Bless this young man with the bag of tampons and trying to invoke, trying to provoke, or evoke a discussion pertaining to the Rights to Retain Personal Privacy - and recognizing their importance before they are taken away or quietly disappear.

I believe tampons are effective at plugging bullet holes in an emergency, but there's no real indication that was the intent. I don't believe he's protesting gender issues.

Some explanation in the OP or the tweet would have been helpful.

There are students with medical issues that may require carrying certain supplies. Are they not allowed to have any privacy, either?
This wouldn’t be the solution for workers either.
