Preet Bharara to Jeff Bezos: "Buy Twitter with change in your pocket and shut Trump's account"

Preet Bharara makes tempting offer to Jeff Bezos: ‘Buy Twitter with change in your pocket and shut Trump’s account’

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/04/preet-bharara-makes-tempting-offer-jeff-bezos-buy-twitter-change-pocket-shut-trumps-account/

Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara made what must have been a tempting suggestion to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos: Buy Twitter and shut down President Donald Trump’s account.

Amazon lost $53 billion in market capital recently after Axios reported that the president wanted to “go after” the company. Trump has had a long-running beef with Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post.

In a tweet on Monday, Bharara offered a suggestion that could mitigate Bezos’ problems and possibly improve the level of discourse in the U.S.

What if Jeff Bezos bought Twitter with the change in his pocket and shut Trump's account?

I'd like to think Hayduke would have grown older and wiser and understood more about the balance between the immediacy of his needs to protect and the equilibrium required to protect for the long-term. In this sense I always felt Ed to be a little myopic in accomplishing his goals but, fuck, he sure wrote great books!

Washington Post profitable and growing for two years under Jeff Bezos’ ownership

The Washington Post had a good year. The newspaper more than doubled digital subscriptions and grew revenue from digital advertising, leading to its second consecutive year of profitability despite the media industry’s challenging landscape.

Washington Post Publisher Fred Ryan touted those accomplishments in an email to staff obtained by Axios. Ryan made a similar announcement at the end of 2016, pledging to hire scores of journalists and double down on technology. In 2013, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos bought the Post for $250 million.

Ryan said the profits will help the paper expand its Washington, D.C., headquarters, grow its editorial team to more than 800, and continue to invest in technology.

“The partnership between news and technology is powering our growth,” Ryan told employees, calling the paper’s newsroom a “laboratory for innovation, capitalizing on the latest advances in storytelling tools.”

market cap today is $21.5B

Generally, he would need to offer significantly over current stock price and acquire 51% of the stock to take over the company...

Let's say $14to $15B (evaluation at $28B to $30B).

Bezos net worth is only like $70B or so (maybe less now with Trump hammering Amazon).

Personally, if I were him, I would be finally SEC complaints against Trump and accuse him of trying to drive down the price of Amazon stock by publishing false information (tweets are publishing, and the charge of cheating the USPS is demonstrably false). I would seek $10B in compensatory damages from the Trump organization.
