Beto O'Rourke Just Raked In an Epic $6.7M Haul in Fight to Unseat Ted Cruz

Beto O'Rourke Just Raked In an Epic $6.7M Haul in Fight to Unseat Ted Cruz
It’s the Texas Democrat’s biggest quarter by far, with more than 141,000 contributions.

Rep. Beto O’Rourke, the Democrat from El Paso, has raised an eye-popping $6.7 million plus in the first quarter of 2018, his Senate campaign announced early Tuesday.

First reported by The Texas Tribune, the cumulative total came from more than 141,000 contributions as O’Rourke mounts an aggressive campaign against incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

“We’re absolutely running this race the right way—not taking any PAC money, going to every single county and holding town halls across Texas where anyone can ask any question,” O’Rourke said in a statement provided to The Daily Beast.

Love that he's going all out with this. bearsfootball516 Apr 2018 #1
Plus, if he doesn't win, this will have at least raised his profile tremendously for a future race. Lisa0825 Apr 2018 #2

The chances he manages to unseat Cruz are still extremely slim, but you can't win if you don't try.

Cruz has never been popular, and he won in 2012 by "only" 16 points when his Democratic opponent raised a grand total of around $150,000

With an anti-Trump bump in Democratic turnout this November and O'Rourke actually having money to run a campaign and a GOTV operation, I think it's realistic.

But 1.5 million primary votes came out for Republican candidates in the primary vs. 1 million for Democratic candidates, and that was with the Democrats being super fired up. Don't get me wrong, I love what O'Rourke is doing. But I'll be stunned if it's close in the end.

Win or lose, we're putting the right on notice that it will take a LOT more money and effort to run from now on.
