This shared system of border control has led to an extremely dangerous passage for refugees on the run. At present, anti-refugee rhetoric and emboldened immigration enforcement officers in the United States are intensifying the dangers that refugees face, even as they flee targeted violence and persecution in some of the most violent countries in the world. This year, the Refugee Caravan seeks to bring attention to the ways in which the US-Mexico detention and deportation regime denies refugees their fundamental rights —including the right of non- refoulement— on both sides of the border. As a direct action of transnational solidarity, the Refugee Caravan demands: no more sabotage to internationally enshrined refugee protections.

On Sunday, April 9, 2017, a caravan initiated with a ceremony evoking the biblical Stations of the Cross sat foot to protest how the United States and Mexico systematically violates the rights of masses of Central American refugees escaping persecution in their home countries. Allies accompanied the refugees on the caravan as they exercised their right to seek asylum, and raised awareness of the violence, human rights violations, and legal challenges they face in Central America, in transit through Mexico, and upon arrival to the United States. Central America is bleeding.

Those who make it to the United States rarely succeed in winning asylum. But their cases can take years to make their way through the backlogged system.

Pueblo Sin Fronteras said in a statement this week that "the high percentage of people fleeing Honduras in the group are the result of multiple political crises in the region provoked in large part by the policies of the US government."

They are refugees fleeing from a sick situation that the US has helped degenerate. So first we dump on them. Now when they come running for sancturary - just as Christ had to do in his young life - republicans want to piss on them again.
