Proposal to use U.S. military to patrol southern border seemingly would violate Posse Comitatus Act

Dr. Dena Grayson @DrDenaGrayson

Trump’s proposal to use U.S. military troops (not the National Guard) to patrol our southern border seemingly would violate the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of *federal military personnel* to enforce domestic policies‼️

so why should he care about this one?

But maybe some smarter people at the Pentagon will set him straight and tell him they can't and won't do it.

it would be legal to use U.S. troops. That's the loophole. He could do it, but there aren't enough troops available for such deployment, really. Even if there were, it would require significant training to keep their actions within constitutional bounds. That would take time.

It's impractical, illogical, and essentially a useless gesture. Trump is speaking from his ass, once again.

600 billion in funds from the spending bill? Unfortunately I don't think training will be an issue.
