But back to the point of the OP.

The political issue here really is that for the better part of 30 years, we've gotten a tremendous amount of moralizing from the GOP. Any moral/character weakness on the part of the democrats or their family was proof positive of an unfitness for office. And all too often the democrats have responded to that standard. However, the reverse seems rarely be true. The current example only being the most extreme case.
