John Kasich, in New Hampshire, hints at Trump 2020 challenge: 'All my options are on the table'

John Kasich says he doesn’t know whether he’ll run for the White House again in 2020.

But the two-term Ohio governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate said he realized his Tuesday trip to New Hampshire – which holds the first presidential primary – would spark more speculation that he’s considering a primary challenge against President Donald Trump.

And appears Kasich’s fine with that.

“It’s great to come back because it gets everybody atwitter, literally. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing. But all my options are on the table. But I don’t know,” he said in an interview with Fox News in Manchester, N.H.

Kasich said any decision on mounting another White House bid would come at least nine months from now, after he finishes his second term as Ohio governor.

“What I know is that I want these next nine months to be a wonderful time in Ohio,” Kasich said.

"Trump won't win the election"

"He'll back down before his inauguration"

"Trump will be lucky to make it two months without being impeached"

"He won't make it past June"

"He'll step away after the tax bill is passed"

I hope he doesn't make it to 2020, but all signs are that he will, and the Democratic Party needs to be prepared to take him on.

The GOP knows that Trump is ballot poison. They can read the numbers as well as you and I can.

Trump's "base" doesn't represent enough voters to win him a second term.

The GOP is tired of having to defend the indefensible on an hourly basis. They are currently engaging in The Big Stall - hoping to keep as many voters in the November midterms by presenting as "unified", when we all know they are in complete chaos.

Once the damage of the November elections is a done deal, there is no reason for the GOP to hold onto Spanky McShithole. He will not only be expendable, he will be their greatest liability going into 2020. The "good Christian" that is Pence will be a much more viable candidate - no pussy grabbing to explain, no loose cannon tweeting covfefe to defend.

The Republican powers-that-be are NOT stupid (despite the fact that their voters are.)

If Trump survives Mueller - which is extremely doubtful - he will still be a tainted candidate.

The only hope the Republicans have at this point is to disassociate themselves from the corruption that is the Trump administration, rather than try to "rehabilitate" a candidate whose approval numbers are this deep into the dumpster.

At this juncture, Trump is the proverbial anchor around the GOP's neck. And they are hoping that Mueller will bring him down so they can say "his downfall was the result of forces beyond our control".

If the Republicans think they can survive Trump's first term in office by running him for re-election, they may as well declare the 2020 GE as already having been won by the Democrats.

The GOP has left themselves zero wiggle room - either you vote for the most despised "pResident" in history, or you vote to replace him with a sane Democrat. I've no doubt they know how that will turn out.

That's the dilemma for the GOP. Republicans can ill afford to alienate the Trump base. Some may be hoping Trump is removed from office, but they have to be careful not to contribute to his ouster. If Trump is still in office and up for re-election, the Republican Party will once again rely heavily on voter suppression, fake news/Russia (and a stunningly ignorant/gullible/cruel base), the existence of the electoral college (that gives outsized influence to small states, resulting in tyranny of the minority) and a pathetic ratings-obsessed media (i.e., infotainment industry) that promotes false equivalencies and is too afraid to label facts as facts and lies as lies (out of some warped sense of 'fairness', all utterances are equally valid 'opinions').

In a sane world (one that never would have allowed for a Trump presidency), I'd be more than just cautiously optimistic. I certainly take comfort in the election results we've been seeing (in Alabama, in Virginia, tonight in Wisconsin, and elsewhere), but I'm still more than just a little nervous about the midterms and 2020.

Residing in the nervous zone is a requirement as we approach the midterms and beyond. You've defined well the obstacles that will raise their ugly heads in the upcoming days/weeks/months. Stay strong, stay focused and above all, stay committed to the republic for which millions have fought and died throughout our nation's history. Our freedom depends on it!

At the rate things are going, things are going to get a lot worse between now and November 2020.

Right now, the shit has yet to hit the fan - and the Trumpers are going to be the worst hit.

Farmers are already losing money from the loss of undocumented workers who are too afraid of being picked-up by ICE if they go to work. Other farms will fail due to Trump’s tariffs.

We won’t know the impact of the TaxScam until next year – I think a LOT of people who got a few bucks more per paycheque are going to be VERY unhappy when they file their taxes, and realize many of their traditional deductions are no longer deductible.

We won’t know the impact on education, HUD, the VA under Trump’s “best people” for at least another year.

Things have gotten progressively worse under Trump – and his craziness is escalating. We have no idea what insanity he will lead the country into next.

After the midterms (and don’t think the PTB in the GOP won’t blame Trump for every single loss), both parties focus on 2020. If Trump survives Mueller (doubtful) and is still around in mid-2019, it means his party has to try to sell a failing, tainted president to a pissed-off public – and a lot more of them will be pissed-off by then. Throw in the fact that Trump’s own words and actions are a treasure-trove of ammunition for any Democrat who runs against him.

The PTB in the Republican party know all of the above. Now, don’t you think they’d much rather be rid of the albatross, and put their efforts into peddling Pence? No porn stars, no covfefe tweets, no pussy-grabber statements to defend – what a godsend after having to defend Trump on an hourly basis. The Evangelicals will be a breeze to switch over to Pence – as we both know, they’ve proven themselves to be the most easily-led voter block. If they were talked into Trump being a “good Christian”, they’ll fall for anything – and “good Christian” Pence will be an easy sell when it comes to switching their loyalties.

My guess is that the GOP are hoping Mueller solves their problem for them. They will publicly wash their hands a la Pontius Pilate, and tsk-tsk as he goes down. They’ll describe him as a “fallen angel” who showed such promise when they promoted electing him – too bad he turned out to be a traitor/money-launderer/tax evader/etc. – they had NO idea. But how does “President Pence” sound to all you Republicans out there?
