If there were no Republican party to wipe out any gains the previous Democratic administration initiated.

No one would have killed the electric car in the 70's. America would have been ahead of the game in that industry world wide.

Alternative energy investments. Probably be world leaders in that industry too. Still remember Ronnie Reagan ordering the solar panels ripped off of the WH roof.

Maybe a high speed rail system country wide.

More investment in higher education instead of falling back alarmingly. Higher educated make a more advanced, higher paid, industrial nation.

Universal healthcare

The list goes on

But I also believe we need an opposition party. Not only servers as a check but any party in total control with no opposition would become corrupt and we don't want that.

Maybe we'll see a return of the Whig party? Who knows, but we do need a viable opposition party(s).

Hard to believe it's been 50 years since Martin and Bobby were cut down by guns. What might have been if they or other progressive leaders had gained power to lead this country in a good direction...

and that's it, period. and I remember a Repub friend in college outlining the EIC long before it ever existed... total republican idea.

My college friend ended up with a high level job at FEMA under Clinton. That was the award winning FEMA and it incorporated some of the Republican ideas she used to talk about in college.

My friend is now a Democrat. She gave up on the GOP with Nixon and never returned, but I know she was happy when Ford signed the EIC.
