(17,305 posts)Tis a rare occasion for me, but we had guests who bought a case of water and left much of it behind so I've had the occasional bottle. Oh well, something is going to kill me anyway.

(108,978 posts)Virtually all the worlds tap water is contaminated by microscopic plastic fibers, a new study claims, raising fresh concerns about the implications of rampant plastic pollution on human and planetary health.
Some 83% of tap water samples collected from over a dozen countries on five continents tested positive for microplastic, according to a study commissioned by data journalism outlet Orb. The specific rate of prevalence in different locales varied, but all tested locations from Europe to Jakarta and Beirut saw plastic found in over 70% of tap water samples.
In the U.S., researchers found that 94% of all water samples including tap water from places like Trump Tower and the Environmental Protection Agencys headquarters were contaminated by plastic.

Orb found on average there were 10.4 particles of plastic per litre that were 100 microns (0.10 mm) or bigger. This is double the level of microplastics in the tap water tested from more than a dozen countries across five continents, examined in a 2017 study by Orb that looked at similar-sized plastics.

The question would be how much plastic there was in plastic vs. tap water in the same country.
