I think this commercial is terrible in the way it mocks McGruff - once proud Public Service Mascot!

You wouldn't do that to Smokey The Bear!!!

McGruff the Crime Dog has fallen on hard times. Actor John Morales, who dressed as the famous bloodhound known for taking a “bite out of crime,” has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The sentencing on Monday followed a guilty plea, three years after police seized 1,000 marijuana plants, 27 weapons — including a grenade launcher, and 9,000 rounds of ammunition — from Mr. Morales’ home, CBS reported.

Mr. Morales was arrested in 2011 when Galveston police and their drug-sniffing dogs pulled him over for speeding. The McGruff actor had two indoor pot-growing operations diagrams sitting on his front passenger seat, and marijuana plant seeds stored in the trunk of his car.

This was the first I’d seen the McGruff commercial, but I don’t think it’s that bad. Geico is a great insurance company and no matter how you look at it, at least they’re not that goddam Flo!

For those questioning the purpose of the ads; there is literally nothing you can say about insurance. Everybody knows what it it is. Nobody likes buying it. Geico is already known for stellar customer service. Their message is very simple; no one wants to buy this shit, so you might as well save some money. I’ll take McGruff over Flo reciting beat poetry any day of the week.

I have to think this character and her ads have been much more successful than Progressive ever dreamed - she's at every toll both in PA!

The ads have spun off to other characters - the ads with JAMIE are the funniest.

. . .that she's coming up on her 10th anniversary as a spokesperson. Her name is Stepanie something and now after all this time, she makes around a half million a year, but in the 9 years prior only got enough to be worth a little under a million bucks. So, until now she had a decent gig but wasn't getting rich.
