A few comments about trade wars

Trade wars have a lot in common with real wars

Like real wars, trade wars...

...are always started by people thinking they are easy to win

...always have unintended victims

...always have unfair impacts on the poor

...make a few people rich while everyone else suffers

...are contests of attrition where both sides lose until one of them can't lose anymore and gives up

...never accomplish what they set out to accomplish

The world's economies are so interlaced that pitting one country against others is not only foolish, that kind of trading behavior is self-defeating because the retaliation will come from many other countries.

Trump is an idiot.
