DNC member resigns after domestic violence charges

By ELANA SCHOR 04/06/2018 04:16 PM EDT

Puerto Rico-based consultant Francisco Domenech resigned from his seat on the Democratic National Committee on Friday after his arrest earlier this week on domestic violence charges.

Domenech, who served as a co-chair of Hillary Clinton's national finance council during the 2016 election, also managed Republican Jenniffer González-Colón’s winning campaign that year to become Puerto Rico’s resident commissioner and nonvoting congressional representative. González-Colón distanced herself from Domenech this week after reports surfaced of his arrest for alleged physical violence against his wife, who works part time in the resident commissioner's office.

Domenech faced growing pressure from local and national Democrats to resign from his at-large seat on the DNC before he did so Friday.

“These allegations of domestic violence are extremely disturbing and have no place in our party,” DNC spokeswoman Sabrina Singh wrote in an email. “As such, we have accepted DNC member Francisco Domenech’s resignation.”

I get it but the statement does not convey that. You need to interpret the meaning CentralMass Apr 2018 #7

Shouldn't in be the acts of domestic violence rather then the allegations ?

Sounds like she's just being legally cautious

until actually prosecuted and convicted, the accusations remain allegations, legally.

It may sound a bit squishy to us out here, but wording it more strongly might prejudice the case.

The allegations are serious, and disturbing. The person resigned and the office accepted the resignation.

Until the case is filed and tried, I'm not sure what can be said that is any more than opinion.

But the arrest was just a week or two ago, so at this point there is no conviction.

As such at this time all that exists it allegations.

In reality it’s a stronger statement to say even allegations are enough to sever ties.
