I haven't seen him since, but Frank Luntz is no idiot. This is pure theater for the stupid. He knows he's spouting nonsense. Probably had to rehearse this line twenty times in front of a mirror before he could say it with a straight face. He's playing to an audience, and it's his audience that should frighten us, not Luntz. They think he's serious. He knows he's not.

He went with who pays highest, and that is the Republicans. If we had had the funds at the time (and I'm talking over 20 years ago), when he was starting out, he would have done the same for us. What he truly believes is anyone's guess, but this garbage isn't anything he believes.

Luntz is incredibly smart, which means he knows perfectly well that kids are not "using socialism to get sex." He plays Uriah Heep on TV, but his "aw shucks" routine is just an act. He knows perfectly well what is going on. He didn't get to be a multi gazillionaire by being dumb enough to really believe that claiming socialist beliefs boost your student sex life. He DID get rich by recognizing that Republicans ARE dumb enough to believe it.

He's a guy I was at school with in my last year of high school. I knew nothing of West Hartford, so when I met this guy, I assumed all of West Hartford was solid Republican. I wasn't in with the in-crowd at this school anyway, as I was a first-year senior who definitely did NOT fit in, and was made to feel it in no uncertain terms. Bush 41 and 43 both graduated from there, so I would have figured it out sooner or later. At the time, 43 was nothing but the deatbeat son of 41.

My West Hartford classmate was class head of our school's chapter of the so-called "Young Americans for Freedom," the Republican youth organization known to the rest of us on campus as the Young Assholes for Fascism. I have no idea what he's up to now. Probably the retired CEO of some insurance company drawing a $5 million a year pension, if he didn't change his spots any in the meantime.
