No matter what happens we will never be able to get the stink off America for electing a mendacious and nefarious clown like Trump.
What a freaking embarrassment.
on edit- I can imagine a Deplorable reading this and feeling the same way about a Democratic president. The difference is if you go to any nation besides Russia and conservative Israeli and Filipino enclaves and say you believe Trump is a great president people will laugh at you.

(22,037 posts)Remember how embarrassing W was? The rest of the world sighed in relief and with respect when we elected Barack Obama.
That will happen again. Have faith!

(28,795 posts)Iraq, Afghanistan, Katrina...he's got plenty of blood on his hands. my biggest heartbreak from Obama's presidency was that he didn't make any progress toward ending the endless war, which i am convinced goes on for the same reason we can't solve the gun issue: to pay arms dealers.
my second biggest heartbreak is that he didn't go after the bush administration. trump could have never become president if it was made clear that bad acts come with real consequences.

(99,710 posts)I would hope folks would concede Bush didn't pit American against American, sow seeds of discord and disunity, and undermine the rule of law.
Trump is a sociopath where Bush was stubborn and misguided.
Oh, give Trump time... Who knows what wars he will start.

(28,795 posts)after my brother insisted that Iraq was involved in 9/11 we ceased talking for over a year. it was easy to tell even then that he had become an inveterate foxbot and i wasn't going to convince him any different.
worse now though, yes. it's a matter of degree, but yes, yes, these are imo the worst days ever in my 62 years.
still though he started those wars. in his name we killed 100s of thousands maybe into the millions, innocent people. we destroyed cities. we continue to destroy our own soldiers with multiple deployments. Bush did plenty of damage; that Trump is doing and will do even more does not erase that.

(30,481 posts)Bush is a folksy kind of racist. He supports policies that harm my community but he isnt smart enough to think his way through them. I have no doubt if he were standing next to me and I was in need he would give me the shirt off his back and comfort me.
Trump wouldnt care if I starved to death today.

(99,710 posts)Trump does.
I have written this before. Trump reminds me of a guy who would get two homeless people to fight with a promise of fifty dollars to the winner and then not pay the victor. Trump is just a bad guy.

(26,263 posts)For years I worked with people who were "educated" in their line of work but had zero curiosity. Their literary tastes ran to romance novels and their TV viewing pretty much stuck to 'Dancing With The Stars' and 'American Idol'.
I was raised by a dedicated educator who didn't stop teaching when he left the school building. We had discussions and conversations, and questions were always encouraged. Even though we didn't always agree, we always learned. I'd use words like ubiquitous, hyperbolic, well, most words with more than 3 syllables, at work, and I'd get a blank stare in return.
(There was one person (my nemesis) a right wing evangelical trump* supporter who used "big" words but they were usually inappropriate to her intention, or pronounced so badly I'd have to stifle a laugh or fight to not roll my eyes. One day she caught an eye roll. Her reaction was not pretty.)
But I digress. I love interacting with people who keep my brain active.

(15,041 posts)So much for that "American Exceptionalism" thing.
Trump managed to bring out every hater, white supremacist, and just plain ignorant voter in America. That, along with a little help from his Russian friends, and Republican governors stacking the deck, were enough to permit him to occupy the White House.
The majority of Americans are embarrassed, nonetheless, the stench sticks to all of us.

It might take a long time, but you'll recover. You are a strong nation, you have strong values and a great ideal. History have shown it.
Also, see how people all around the country, are organizing the resistance.
Keep faith my friend, better days are coming.
