why would "Law Firm 1" agree to pay Cohen a half-million dollars per year without giving him access to the company e-mail, server, files, etc., or receiving files from him? Sounds like they ought to be investigated, as well.

So he was just a conduit using his connections to provide new clientele for the firm and got share of fees the clients paid the law firm but Cohen did not actually represent the clients himself.

Term "Strategic Alliance" was used by firm to describe Cohen's role and payment. Document says Cohen made 5 referrals to the law firm, so apparently his value was in referring people to the firm to become new clients.
