Trump's longtime personal attorney went to federal court to stop prosecutors from looking at materials seized in a recent FBI raid.

NEW YORK Lawyers for President Donald Trump and his longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen went to court Friday trying to stop federal prosecutors from getting at private material but wound up with a judge ordering them to disclose Cohens client list in public.
U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood on Friday ordered attorneys for Cohen to hand over a list of Cohens law clients and proof of their relationship by 10 a.m. Monday, so she can decide whether materials seized from Cohens office by federal law enforcement agents last week should be protected by attorney-client privilege.
That list will be a public record, Wood said, because the identities of an attorneys clients are not subject to attorney-client privilege unless the mere name itself would reveal the kind of advice sought or given.
Woods order raises the possibility of further embarrassing disclosures involving Cohen, who is already at the center of a legal dispute involving adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, who is suing the president to void a nondisclosure agreement negotiated by Cohen concerning a sexual encounter Daniels says she had with Trump in 2006.

(10,437 posts)trump can't use "executive privileged" as he was not sworn as president for almost all the cohen/stormy stuff Cohen can't claim "attorney/client privileged" if Cohen was part of committing a crime.
payoffs, bribes, shakedowns, threats can all be criminal matters. Cohen needs a better lawyer than what he was to trump ASAP

(11,564 posts)Judges really do hate being lied to, and the "things getting worse" part could take the form of rulings on admissibility or procedure that were close calls going against himthem. Good judges are impartial, but they are also human.

(6,843 posts)The Italian mafia stereotypes that get thrown around here are ridiculous.
Were the Playboy models in the mafia? Cohen is a Jewish surname last I checked.
What you just did is disgusting and a stereotype. This has nothing to do with the mafia yet you make fun of the way Italians in New Jersey talk.

(21,664 posts)Many of Cohen's past clients are rumored to be mafiosi. Most Italian-Americans - including yours truly - detest them as a living slur against anyone of Italian descent.

(21,664 posts)Cohen is rumored to have cosa nostra figures among his past clientele - including some that did business with Cheeto.
It'll be interesting to see what other connections the raid produces, besides the ones currently in the news.

If you have ever been in Southern Italy you would realize what this really is, and mean live there for awhile.

(21,664 posts)Several of my great-great grandparents were from Piemonte. I'm not as familiar with the Mezzogiorno region as you are, unfortunately.
That said, rumors that Cohen - and above all, Cheeto - have had extensive dealings with the Cosa Nostra are fairly well known. It would be great if, besides uncovering campaign finance violations, money laundering, and Russia-connected wrongdoing, these Cohen raids also unearth some of that.
They say the dead tell no tales; I bet the same can't be said of these Cohen files.

Why do you feel compelled to make a mispelling on par with a stereotype slur, and try to dismiss it with pedantic bullshit?

For the record, it was Scicilians and Teddy Roosevelt called it "a good thing"
The amount of stereotypes thrown at Italian Americans on DU is fucking ridiculous. To the point when Scaramucci was appointed a well known DUer made a post about appointing "goombas" a slang for Compari Southern Italian slang for friend and now a mafia slur.
So just stop with the stupid Scotch bullshit.

(31,261 posts)Colorful names have nothing to do with a person's ethnic heritage. The names have more to do with the character of the person, especially criminal types or liars. My dad was a hard working man, but I remember as a kid, him recounting some of the colorful names that he had heard given to thugs, and I am southern born and have stopped in New Jersey only to change airplane seats.

As a boy I heard term like Jack the Rat, Jake the Snake, Brat the SlickCat, all were terms used to describe seedy characters. I grew up nowhere near New Jersey.

(102 posts)much sooner than Russian collusion investigation will. Just to be clear, am not suggesting (in any way) that collusion and obstruction didn't occur (they clearly did) or that they're lesser crimes (they aren't). And, yes, am well aware that some of Cohen's crimes are collusion related. Mueller (and the SDNY AG and NY AG) have Cohen in a trick box. Which means they have the buffoon too. Delicious!
BTW, my first post on DU. Great info here and looking forward to adding to the conversation.
