I've met a fair number of serving officers in the U.S. military. They're very impressive -- smart, sophisticated, well-informed. And they take honor very seriously. What must it be like for them now? 1/
They know perfectly well that the current commander-in-chief is a man of no honor whatsoever -- dishonest, corrupt, quite possibly being blackmailed by a hostile foreign power. 2/
Could such a man deliberately wag the dog? That is, might he engage in military action -- killing people, and putting U.S. servicemen and women at risk -- to distract from his scandals? Of course he could. 3/
Was the Syria strike an example? Not clear. But the suspicion is obvious and unavoidable. And who knows what comes next? So if you're in the military, you have to be asking yourself: how do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a pee tape? 4/

(3,011 posts)That's just the reality. My active duty son is surrounded by republicans who get their news from rush and fox.

(3,011 posts)2 totally distinct realities. Example: Mueller Crime Family. This is completely made up but will become reality for 30% of the population. After a while, it's impossible to talk to someone who believes that Mueller is corrupt and believes you are ignorant.
There is not common ground between a lie and the truth.

(5,106 posts)There's always that thirty percent. Can you imagine how they'd have reacted if the electoral college had done their duty in the last election? If they (and the Supreme Court) had done right by Al Gore in 2000, it probably would have gone fairly smoothly. The Repugs pulled some dirty tricks, back then, but hadn't yet been taken over by the ill- educated and those celebrating the "worst angels of their natures."

(4,940 posts)Home of the Strykers, the Arctic Warriors, and the USAF's designated home for the F-35's. I deal with a lot of them daily.
I have never heard a single soldier or airman express that sentiment about Pres. Obama. In fact, I've heard a lot of praise. Most are way above the Faux-Hannity-Rush level of Intel logence. Not saying the bad sentiments aren't there, but I haven't seen much. It's the old white men here that hold on to their delusions.
For the orange draft-dodging corrupt POS currently pretending to be POTUS? ALL - ALL!! of the men and women in the military that I've talked with? They hate him.
It goes back to honor, integrity, and service, and the shitgibbon has none and gives none.
Thank you, Paul Krugman.

(4,940 posts)Times seem to have changed a bit. I'm proprietary; lots of officers & enlisted in my neighborhood, mixed in with (and attending classes with) UAF students & professors. It also seems like most of these kids are very, very intelligent and goal-oriented and the brass encourages them.
Now if the teams from Ft. Wainwright would quit winning EVERY SINGLE DAMN OUTHOUSE RACE at Chatanika during Breakup Days.......

He has no conscience at all. He will say and do anything for his own personal gain and lusts. It is all just shock and awe and I truly believe the closer Mueller gets to him the more shock and awe we will see.

(9,426 posts)as to how this sleazebag gets honorable people to stick with him? He is completely corrupt, no morals, ethics, shame, intelligence or any admirable traits. Worst person EVER to step into the WH. Disgusting, repulsive, glutton.

(4,341 posts)Anyone who supported this man during and after the campaign lost whatever honor they had. To support all the vitriol trump spew during the campaign was enough for "honorable" people to turn away from him.
If they followed him, knowing who the man is, while he was settling for the fraud of "Trump University" which just reinforced what true honorable people knew about him, if they still went along for the ride, then they had no honor.
Knowing that trump has the unMidas touch, that everyone who engages with him ends up destroyed and loses whatever little dignity the had before joining him, if you know that and you are honorable, you would never accept anything from trump, but if on the other hand you are someone who has no dignity or honor, no principles, you will take the chance.
Yes, there are some people who have and still are somewhat honorable, like Rosenstein, who so far has done ok, not counting the firing of Comey, who may have deserved it for other reasons besides the ones trump had, but you can count those with one hand.
That is my answer to your question.

(9,512 posts)...my father-in-law is an example of a basically decent and honorable man who got sucked in by the trump/anti-clinton hysteria. It is an absolute shock and mystery to my wife and I how he could think trump would be a good choice for president.

(5,106 posts)Sorry I can't link to it, but he claims their ministerial leaders told them that God was in Trump's corner, basically. Most liberals know that right wing philosophy has been being preached from the pulpit for quite a while. It's their right, of course, but NOT while they're exempt from paying taxes.
If that doesn't hit people in the heart, nothing will...Very strong and perfectly put statement.
