Comey: 'The Republican Party has left me and many others'

By Brad Mielke and Kelly Terez at ABC News

"SNIP......

I just think they've lost their way and I can't be associated with it," Comey said in an interview on the ABC News podcast “Start Here,” adding that he no longer considers himself a Republican.

He said he believes the Republican Party began to change during the 2016 presidential campaign and has continued to change with President Donald Trump in office. It wasn't until he was fired by Trump that Comey started to focus more on politics and realized, "These people don't represent anything I believe in.”

He noted that the Republican National Committee launched a website dedicated to him: LyinComey.com. He said it served as “no better evidence” that the GOP had left him.

"I see the Republican Party, as near as I can tell, reflects now entirely Donald Trump's values," Comey told host Brad Mielke. "It doesn't reflect values at all. It's transactional, it's ego-driven, it's in service to his ego. And it's, I think, consoling itself that we're going to achieve important policy goals -- a tax cut or something."

Of course, Comey also thinks Trump has above average intelligence. And that it was perfectly reasonable to do what he did to Clinton based on his belief that she was likely to win the election.

The man is nuts.

Comey had not editorialized about Hillary Clinton's actions when he initially closed the investigation. I wish there had not been a bunch of right wing FBIs threatening to leak the restart of the investigation. I wish Anthony Weiner was not such a creep. I wish Comey had not decided he had to speak about an investigation a week before an election. I wish Hillary had not used a private server. So many things went very wrong. Thankfully that means there will likely be changes once the democrats get some power.

If there is one silver lining to the Trump fiasco it is that he has taken the mask off of the GOP. No more "compassionate conservatism" like with Bush II or "Morning in America" like with Reagan.

I hope people don't buy into the "woe is us" stuff coming from many Republicans like Trump was some evil space alien that dropped into their primary and hypnotized Republican voters. Trump is just the logical conclusion of decades of Republican hate-mongering without the filter and prefab image that other Republicans have.

on violence. It is illegal for anyone else to use force or for the state to use extrajudicial force in a democracy. All that fear creeps had of nation states and their power has gone out the window with Trump with his attacks on the deep state or against intelligence or policing agencies. And, as a result, we see authoritarians trying to get power everywhere.

He missed a lot of years of the GOP being assholes to Obama and the worst campaign ever run? What a callous idiot.
