around 14 yrs. old, we convinced one of our "gang" that if you rubbed chicken shit on your upper lip it would facilitate hair growth so he could have a full, thick mustache. He was fair-haired and wouldn't really be able to grow one well into his twenties. At the time we thought it was hilarious. He diligently rubbed chicken shit on his upper lip for quite some time, so badly did he want that mustache. We finally broke down and told him. I look back at things like that now and feel awful for bullying someone like that, but when you're a kid (this was in the mid-1960s) it's just "good clean fun". Not so clean for him, but we thought it was a master prank.

I know e. coli existed back then, but it didn't seem nearly as pervasive as it is now. Maybe that's because they didn't feed the chickens, chicken? No, he never got any diseases, but if you've ever smelled chicken shit you'd know that the ammonia content is off the charts. He never had stuffy nose if I remember correctly. We kept this up for no more than a month or so, and he may have even stopped before that. His parents raised chickens/eggs so there was never a shortage.
