criminal charges.
This is madness - the real political witch hunt.

(6,709 posts)Sometimes the enemy of our enemy (i.e. McCabe) should not be our friend.
And btw caution was being urged by some close to the situation when McCabe was being targeted and then fired.

(68,586 posts)are you the leaker he says no...but he asked his agents to discuss issue with journalist...so he goes back and sets the records straight...IG is corrupted.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)simply due to his position as Dep. Director AND Media Liason, he also cleared it through the FBI Director Comey before he spoke to them.
There was nothing either clandestine, nor unauthorized, about what he did, therefore 'leaking' is a ridiculous term to use to begin with.
He was 100% totally correct in saying 'no I did NOT leak any info'. That term implies lack of authority and secrecy, neither of which applied in this case.
This is an f'ing joke.
Azathoth
(4,610 posts)Comey testified to the IG that McCabe did not inform him of the "leak." In addition to the three counts of lying to investigators, the IG has also leveled a fourth count of lying to Comey (which was not under oath, but would still be a firing offense under FBI regs).
Azathoth
(4,610 posts)(Unless, of course, you're Jeff Sessions.)
According to the report, McCabe kept denying knowledge of the leak until he was directly confronted with evidence, at which he point he admitted he had authorized it and then tried to push it all off on "miscommunication and misunderstanding and lapses in memory."
Come on.
Demsrule86
(68,586 posts)FBI officials to talk to journalist. There will never be a prosecution....the IG is dirty...or he has to do this to justify firing the guy two days before his retirement. Th IG serves at Trump's pleasure. Maybe Trump has something on the guy or maybe he just wants to keep his job. But he is compromised in some way.
Azathoth
(4,610 posts)There is not, as yet, any evidence that the IG is dirty.
McCabe told investigators that he did not authorize the leak and did not know where it came from. After getting caught in subsequent interviews, he kept trying to "amend" that statement and squirm around, claiming at different times, that he never said what the investigators recorded him as saying, that he didn't remember what he had told them but that they "must have got it wrong" somehow, that he was "surprised" and taken off guard by the questions they asked and thus forgot about authorizing the leak, etc.
Again, come on. This sounds like a classic case of a guy lying to cover himself, and then subsequently trying to wriggle out of it once he realizes that investigators have some kind of evidence.

(26,060 posts)They have been chasing their tails with her for decades. I'm not willing to turn my eyes from all other problems she may have legally just to get Donnie. And I cry no tears for McCabe. The cons have a talking point that the fib was trying to help Hillary and hurt Donnie, the truth puts that nonsense to rest. Mueller is not going to indict Donnie- he's just not. The report is going to go to congress, what WE have power to do is make sure it's being controlled by a Democrats.

No one is arguing that it does. Though one may presume the corollary is also true, yes?
Azathoth
(4,610 posts)I don't think we are served by going out on a limb defending either McCabe or Comey, especially when an ostensibly neutral investigator like the IG is the one leveling charges. We shouldn't play into the GOP framing of "If these guys are guilty of what the IG says, then everything they touched, including the Russia investigation, collapses." The legitimacy of the Russia investigation really needs to be kept separate from these guys' personal ethics, and we won't be helping our own credibility by rushing to defend them and attacking the IG if it turns out the IG is correct.

The IG found that McCabe lied under oath.
It's unfortunate that some Democrats are behaving like Donald Trump and accusing people of engaging
in a "which hunt" when they don't like the results of an investigation.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)after the firing, insisting that the accusations were false ... if he knew they were true, esp. to the point of being criminal in nature (though he did admittedly apparently have to clear up some poor initial communication on his part, so maybe that's the beef) ... I just can't see someone who'd risen to the level that McCabe had in the FBI would be someone dumb enough to not only demonstrably lie under oath, but also compound his troubles by then turning around and lying to the public in a press release saying he did not lie under oath.
Put it this way, I'll be keen to learn the details when they become available, what he lied about, why, what he had to clear up later, what authority he actually had as DD of FBI and Media Liaison to 'make the calls' he did if he made them w/o clearing with Comey.
