Tapper asks "Would the country be better off under HRC?" Comey replies, "I can't answer that."

Privilege is a powerful drug.

How many times was HRC asked to apologize for losing the election? And this guy can't even admit that he did anything wrong, and is treated like a paragon of virtue. Can't even say that the country would be better off under Hillary!

Fuck Comey forever.

he didn't say he *doesn't know* the answer -- he said he can't give the answer.

there's little doubt in my mind that comey now believes hillary would have been a better president.
i think he's among the many who think donnie is a complete disaster and even if he thinks hillary would be a bad president, that's still better than donnie.

he *can't* answer that question because if he did, then he'd be instantly discredited as being a pro-hillary shill, and the right wing would kick into overdrive to trash him and his book as merely partisan pro-hillary drivel. and the media would buy it, after pounding it relentlessly.

A well reasoned and civil response. None of us can answer the question with complete certainty as HRC did not become President. Very likely she would have been head and shoulders better than The "Esteemed" Mr. Trump, but we will never know the actual answer as it is simply impossible to know what the path not taken would have lead us to. At best we can only surmise.

I agree that we can never really know the path not taken.

But I think it is safe *for us* as outside observers to say that Hillary would surely have been a much better president. If there would have been any problems, they would surely have been because the right wing and the media would have gone ape with smears and fake scandals and investigations. Arguably, that might have made the country worse in the long run, who knows.

Anyway, my point was that it would be impolitic of comey to answer even if he has a strong opinion. His appearing not to be partisan is hugely valuable to him, and to us.

Comey is working so hard to project an image of sanctimonious impartiality and (for me) it's just moved into a realm of narcissistic superiority.

F'ck him is right. To act like he's so objective and blind to the emotions/empathy that define human nature - just f'ck him.

I know Hillary would have made a better president, but that does not automatically translate to being in a better position because there are thousands of unknowns. One thing for certain is that the winner gets the blame for a tampered election.

Yet another Benghazi committee, more on her email server, the color of her pantsuit, ways in which Clinton is actually worse than Hitler, Mao and Salinas combined etc.

There are a lot of ways to get into a position of being in terrible shape regardless of the competence of a president.
His statement was not anti-Clinton. Just a recognition of the fact that there are many ways for things to go wrong.
