General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI received a news report from MarketWatch that said Trump not focus of Mueller probe.
The report discussed the fact that the market had recovered from earlier losses base on the follow:
...Helping stocks in the final hour was a Bloomberg report that President Donald Trump had been told he wasn't a target of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe, news that seemed to lessen some of the political uncertainty swirling around markets.
I scanned the LBN and GD on DU looking for a discussion regarding this and found none. The report from MarketWatch was sent at 4:30 EST today April 19, 2018. Did I miss something? If this is true, I have nothing to live for. Ssssshhhhhssssss!!!!!
I found a link to the bloomberg article.

(102,288 posts)Ignoring the issue as to whether or not a sitting President can be indicted or not, claiming Trump is not a target today means nothing in terms of changing that designation tomorrow, weeks, or months from now-- whenever DOJ was ready to do so.
Trump doesn't know the difference between a "subject" and a "target" and his legal team are likely intentionally not trying to educate him for fear of a "firing" freak out.

(3,335 posts)here it was a week later. Also, since MarketWatch was stating that the market had recovered TODAY based on the announcement. The Market usually doesn't react to week old data, but thanks for clearing that up. So I can come back in off the ledge???

Things moving too quickly?

(115,732 posts)has a specific meaning in the law. If Mueller follows established DoJ policy that a sitting president can't be indicted, that means he can't be a target, because a target is someone with respect to whom there is evidence of a crime, and who can be a putative defendant. If a sitting president can't be indicted he can't be a putative defendant, and therefore he can't be a target for the purpose of federal prosecution. It does not mean there is no evidence of criminal conduct, and it doesn't mean he can't become a target after he's left office.
