Sometimes Things Break and They Don't Get Fixed

But it’s been a good week. The last ten days or so have really stood out.

To put it bluntly, the president is completely screwed six ways to Sunday
, and all that’s left is to wait for this to play out and get our goblets ready to drink the tears. Anyone who knows anything about Michael Cohen understands this already, and the rest of the people will eventually catch up.

My best guess is that Sean Hannity is finished as well although that, too, will not likely become clear for some time. All I know is that they were desperate enough to keep a lid on his conversations with Cohen to pretend he was a client and to put his name out there as if he has a right to have those conversations kept privileged. There was no other reason to list him as a client in the first place and no reason to volunteer his name in open court when the judge was offering to let them give her a sealed envelope.

Kris Kobach is also screwed.
He’s just been held in contempt of court for defying court orders related to Kansas’s voter identification laws. And that’s not a good look for a Secretary of State, nor for a candidate for U.S. Senate, nor for the person whom President Trump put in charge of getting to the bottom of our non-existent problem with in-person voter fraud.

Republicans are beginning to have their fantasies hit up against a wall of reality on a more frequent basis now. Their efforts to repeal Obamacare met up with reality. There rhetoric about excluding whole classes of immigrants met up with reality. Now that people have seen their tax bill and it isn’t popular, their false hopes for pulling out of their political tailspin has met with reality, and this is confirmed regularly in local, state, and federal elections where they’re getting stomped in Trump country
.

snip//

Reality will assert itself. Climate change will make itself understood in indisputable terms no matter how many conservatives take money from The Heartland Institute and the Koch Brothers to tell us its fake news. Nearly all of Trump’s lies with be debunked in time and his disgrace is assured. A wave of progressive legislation will come to protect and improve our elections and our systems. I know there is a way out of these woods, and if I didn’t believe we could find the route in time I wouldn’t spend my life doing what I do.

Sometimes I have my doubts, but this week I’m feeling pretty good. Maybe we’ll never fix everything that’s been broken, but I think we’ll get the chance.

My health may not last long enough to see this all play out if it takes a year or two.

A lot of people will die or become ill from not getting timely, affordable healthcare or being able to afford their losses during the next climate change disaster or getting their Medicaid, Social Security and Medicaid cut, or get deported for being a Dreamer, etc. People can't wait much longer.

I had to stop watching the news, came here hours later and found out about Rudy and saw a video of Trump with his old strut working and lost it again. I agree, and I know it will take time.

Kobach, I am still betting he is my next governor. With the gazillions of dollars from the Koch's in their home state he will be so superfunded and the public will be so filled with super-propaganda that the majority who cannot think anymore will click that name. I am hoping I am wrong but if he gets through the primary it will be him. We have a 3rd party spoiler again. Great Dem candidates but the spoiler will make it very hard.

God bless Ross Perot for making sure that GHWB and then Bob Dole didn't get enough votes to prevent two terms of Bill Clinton. Unfortunately, Ralph Nader interfered in 2000 making sure some of the Democratic votes that would have gone to Al Gore were siphoned off. That allowed bush/cheney to steal the White House. And in 2016 - well, I've already said plenty about 2016. Let's just say it's fair to include that campaign year here. And I'm old enough to remember when John Anderson ran as an independent, messing things up for Jimmy Carter against Ronald Reagan.

Anderson started out strong, polling especially well on college campuses and among other voters looking for an alternative to Carter, the unpopular Democratic incumbent, and his conservative challenger, Reagan.

I WISH we could get past that third-party crap, at least on our side of the aisle. Should only afflict the GOP, and splinter THEM by Election Day, and not us.

Our government will never be put back together again in the same way. Having said that, we do not dare give up trying to salvage what we can because sooner or later it will be our turn. After all we did manage to elect Obama for 8 years.

but instead, americans have allowed 1500 radio stations to create that alternate reality for the last 30 years WITH NO DIRECT CHALLENGE FROM THE LEFT

the right has maintained a political advertising blowhorn for the GOP by subsiding and protecting a 20 -1 monopoly - and by continuing to ignore it dems guarantee this will go on longer than it needs to, the right will extract more compromise, many who deserve jail will escape, and the right will continue to be able to undermine this democracy with a few hundred think tank scripted assholes on 1500 radio stations.

it excused reagan crime family treason and made reagan into a god, it sold us into iraq and made sure the bush crime family got away with it, and now it had to get even worse. we have lost 30 years dealing with global warming because the left ignores talk radio - and still does.

it just got a lot easier to make it possible to monitor talk radio and it would be incredibly stupid for the dem party and progressive orgs not to end the biggest political mistake in history

Artificial intelligence has recently made it much easier and cheaper to digitize hate radio.

Maybe it's a good thing that things break...when they do or are threated with breakage, more and more people have been coming out and exercising their democratic right to protest against the repugs in their seemingly constant effort to 'break' things.

It is I think, putting a lot of the drive and energy we in DU land and beyond to vote these guys out of office as they so richly deserve (at least it's helping a little bit, I think).

When you come down to it also, the repugs really haven't come out w/ any significant things to do, other than reward their corporate sponsors with a major tax break (and us, 'the person on the street, with a little bit, if any). They are so concerned about the upcoming 2018 disaster that they are not willing to do any major legislation until after the elections so they won't loose what little support they have now.

In short, these guys harped and harped about doing this and doing that, and now that they are in power, they are so divided among themselves to get anything done.

They also face a hugely unified democratic party along w/ many independents and dissatisfied voters of theirs in their non-existent public meetings with their own voters (got yelled and screamed out profusely). So when the actual elections come, we need to ensure not just GOTV, but major time, major percentage gain over normal voting for all democratic candidates (for all registered and new voters).

One reason why the major percentage gain would be desired is to erase any possible Russian interference. We now know of such interference and we now are on alert.
